Årsmøde 2026

Årsmøde i Lingvistikkredsen med foredrag af Zygmunt Frajzyngier, University of Colorado Boulder. 

På dette års årsmøde er der valg til Lingvistkredsens komité, og til Acta Linguistica Hafniensias redaktion. Alle medlemmer kan stille op. Man kan melde sig som kandidat på selve årsmødet, men af hensyn til planlægning må man gerne på forhånd give besked til undertegnede (sekretær Johanne Sofie Krog Nedergård, jskn@hum.ku.dk). Hvem der er på valg, og hvem der ønsker at genopstille, fremgår af dagsordenen.

Mellem årsmødet og foredraget vil der være sandwich og drikkevarer. Tilmelding vil derfor være nødvendig – senest fredag d. 4. september kl. 12.00. Tilmelding foregår ved at kontakte lingvistkredsen på e-mail og oplyse om allergener og andre kostpræferencer (f.eks. om man foretrækker med eller uden kød).

Årsmødet afsluttes med foredraget "Syntactic morphology: why some languages have it and others don’t" af Zygmunt Frajzyngier, University of Colorado Boulder. 

Abstract 

This study has two aims: to demonstrate the existence of syntactic morphology whose sole function is to mark the syntactic units phrase and sentence, and to explain why some languages have syntactic morphology whereas others do not. I argue that syntactic morphology is a fundamental mechanism of utterance formation in languages lacking agreement systems and overt marking of lexical categories.

The analysis is based on Mina (Central Chadic), where syntactic morphology consists of two segmental and two prosodic processes applying uniformly to lexical and grammatical morphemes. Retention of the word-final vowel and the suffix -n mark phrase-final position, while vowel reduction marks phrase-internal position. Low-tone lowering marks sentence-final position, and tone raising signals that another phrase follows. I propose that syntactic morphology emerges in languages lacking agreement systems for gender, case, and number, and lacking overt coding of lexical categories, which often help to identify constituent relations.

Bio 

Zygmunt Frajzyngier is Professor Emeritus of Linguistics at the University of Colorado. He has held research and visiting appointments at the CNRS (Nice), the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology (Leipzig), La Trobe University, the University of Nice, the LABEX program in Paris, the Pays de la Loire Chaire Régionale de Chercheur Étranger, the City University of Hong Kong, and Far Eastern Federal University. He is the recipient of the Humboldt Research Award and was a Senior Fulbright Specialist at the Università degli Studi di Napoli L'Orientale. His recent books include Language Formation by Adults (2021, with Natalia Gurian and Sergei Karpenko), Typology of Reference Systems (2023), Locative Predications in Chadic (2024), Semantic Structures of Grammatical Systems and Their Realizations (2026), and Unsettled Questions in Mandarin: Selected Domains and Functions (with Meichun Liu, in press).
